Rationale : 
This design was inspired by the original artwork which is called "The Two Fridas", it explores the concept of a dual identity , emotional strength and connection. The original artwork presents two version of the same person to symbolizing conflict and contrasting identities that are still connected through their heart.

In my development i tried to simplify the visual complexity of the original artwork while i maintaining the core meaning. i reduced the background into a muted color grayscale to create stronger emphasis on the heart. the heart is highlighted using a bright red color to make it as the center point and representing emotional and connection between the two figures. i incorporated typography into the artwork using the phrase "Divided but Connected" to make the concept more easier to understand at a glance. the placement of the text follows the composition, "divided" represents the separation of identity, "connected" close to the vein visually links both figures. this enhances the sense of the movement from the artwork.

The use of contrast between muted grayscale tone and the red highlights strengthen the visual hierarchy, ensuring the viewer's attention is drawn to the emotional of the artwork. this artwork maintains the original message while presenting it in a more contemporary and visually focused way.

                                                                                                                                                                  

REFLECTION 

Working on this final composition based on The Two Fridas was a really interesting and challenging process for me. att the beginning i wasn’t sure how much i should change from the original artwork because i wanted to keep its meaning while still adding my own ideas. as i moved from analysis to sketching i started to realize that i didn’t need to change everything instead focusing on key elements made the design clearer. this helped me understand that design is not always about adding more but about knowing what to keep, what to change, and what to reduce. 

One of the most important decisions i made was to focus on the heart as the main focal point. by reducing the colors in the rest of the composition and keeping the heart as the only bright red element the design became more focused and easier to understand. i also found working with typography quite new and slightly challenging. adding the phrase “Divided but Connected” made me think more carefully about placement and how text can support the overall concept. overall this project helped me feel more confident in developing my ideas into a final design.

At first, I thought shirts were just about collars and buttons, but after going through the lessons I realized there are so many small elements that make each shirt unique—like cuffs, plackets, different types of collars, and yokes.     The process began with collecting references and compiling images of different shirt details. I searched online and also looked at my own clothes to understand the construction. It was actually fun to notice details I never paid attention to before, like the way seams are stitched or how the placket is shaped. What I learned this week is that observation is very important in fashion design. Even something as “basic” as a shirt has so many design choices behind it. DST63504 - introduction to pattern drafting & garment making

24/09/25 this is the first week of the semester and create a blog for courses that i'm starting the degree on bachelor of fashion design technology. The first week of Introduction to Fashion Design was both overwhelming and exciting because we immediately jumped into the real foundations of garment making. Our main focus was understanding fabric terms and grain lines, which is something I had only heard of before but never studied in detail. We examined a piece of muslin and identified the selvage edges, the lengthwise grain (warp), the crosswise grain (weft), and the true bias at a 45 degree angle. By actually labeling the fabric and handling it in different directions, I could feel how each grain behaves the lengthwise grain is firm, the crosswise grain has a little more give, and the bias is the stretchiest.
